Are there any Republicans left like Teddy Roosevelt? And if so, how do we get them to come out of hiding and take back their party?

I don't know for certain when the switch took place, but wouldn't a Republican by the standards of Teddy's day be considered a Democrat by our standards?

I can't figure out how to get the Religious Right out of control of the Republicans, so that the large number of fiscally conservative but basically decent people out there can have a voice again. How does one attack the RR without being accused of "attacking God" or "attacking the foundation of our Christian nation" (which is spurious but a common blind spot/misconception)?
