I think I’m beginning to figure out LJ’s S2 style system. The architecture seems pretty sound, though some of the templates are a little funky. Serious degrees of customization require a lot of copying from the parent templates and editing, and it requires (in addition to the understanding of HTML and CSS for S1) some basic coding skills in C/Perl/JavaScript-like languages.
