I’m quite enjoying Firefox’s extension capabilities. Adding Adblock (and telling it about a few important patterns like http://*.doubleclick.net/* and http://servedby.advertising.com/*) and Flashblock does an amazing job of cleaning up web pages. (Flashblock is particularly nice in that you can watch the flash plug-ins if you want to, but it waits for you to click an icon to do so.)
Some other good ones are Tabbrowser Extensions— a browser without the customizations you can get from that one feels very clumsy— and Mouse Gestures, which are very handy when using a system with a large screen when you don’t want to mouse all the way to the edge to use buttons.
BugMeNot is pretty handy for reading news on the sites that demand registration: just invoke it and it will offer you a login and password that will let you get past the “you must register” screens.
