I usually vacuum before game starts on Saturdays, since it makes life easier for our friends with allergies. There was one afternoon where I had a deranged idea...

The Rainbow vacuum is basically a turbocharged water bong; I believe an older model of these was the original idea for R2-D2 in Star Wars. It’s very handy because there’s no bag, just the bong water. (You can fill a room with any scent you want by adding a few drops to the bong water before you run the vacuum. When obsessivewoman was helping zevblue clean a place that had seen a lot of heavy incense use, they were worried about the machine burning out because of the burning smell that filled the air.) When you’re done vacuuming, you just dump the water (which might be grey and filled with fluff, or might look like mud, depending on just what you’ve been vacuuming up) into the toilet and rinse the bowl out, and it’s not a problem.

Our friend Erik often shows up early to hang out and chat before game, and after I finished vacuuming the living room, he remarked in a light, newagey voice: “This room has been cleansed!”

At that point, my brain made a bunch of connections: fill the bowl of a Rainbow vacuum with holy water, inscribe the appropriate occult sigils on the bong and on the machine, and you could have a very effective device for cleansing a room of possession, curses, and so on.

I explained this to Erik, suggesting that the bong water from vacuuming up ghosts might be full of green ectoplasm. He instantly came up with a slogan: “If the water’s green, the room is clean!”

Can we borrow your "modded" Rainbow when we get a new place, for the initial Sweep? ;)

We haven’t “modded” it yet, but I’d be happy to give it a try. meorime, what do you think? Fill the bowl with ritually charged water, add a few drops of a scent suitable for new beginnings, paint some appropriate designs on the appropriate devices...? And should we write it up and send it in to an appropriate journal?
