Just watched last night’s Daily Show, where Jon Stewart is interviewing Hassan Ibrahim, who is a journalist for Al-Jazeera. One exchange I found particularly interesting:
JS: Obviously in this country, the view of Al-Jazeera is very different than it is over in the Arab world. The view we have here is that it is, maybe not necessarily anti-American, but certainly slanted toward the Arab nationalist point of view, so if there’s one misconception that you’d like us to know about Al-Jazeera, what do you think that would be.Has anyone with a reasonable claim to objectivity evaluated the journalism at Al-Jazeera?HI: I would just quote the last thing I read on the most popular Arab nationalist site on the Internet, where they describe Al-Jazeera as a mouthpiece for American imperialism and Zionists.
