Suppose all broadcast decency standards were repealed, and the only control on profanity, nudity, gory violence, and explicit sex on television was whether it caused viewers to switch off the channel or not? I expect things would get pretty bad at some point, but I wonder where things would settle once the oscillations damped out. It would be interesting to have a peek into that universe, though I don’t know whether it would actually improve much of television programming...

After the initial backlash of repression I suspect it would level out -- take the internet for example, not all sites are about p0rn, only about 80%. :) Besides who really wants to watch things like the censored version of Sex in the City on TBS.
