What’s the best way to repair the black weather stripping that lines a car’s door when it starts to fray and tatter? My first inclination would be to use black electrical tape, but it should be something all-weather...

IIRC, automotive stores will have several types of the rubber gasket you need, on big rollers -- you can cut to size. You could either splice a new length gasket in with the original gasket, and then seal the seams with silicone gel, or commit to replacing the whole gasket at once.

I imagine there is also a special gasket adhesive compound sold in tubes near the gaskets, which may have some more educated advice than this which I now provide.

My dad will know since he's been keeping his 1960 Volvo alive lo these many years...of course he's out of town, but I'll ask him. Good reason to call my sister anyway!
