Eat your heart out, Dracula - scientists turn blood into biscuits and chocolate

Dr. Ludmila Antipova, head of the Voronezh State Technological Academy’s Department of Meat and Meat Products, leads a team that has developed ways to turn extra blood from the slaughterhouse into a variety of foods: “chocolate”-filled biscuits (filling made from cow blood cells, sugar and chocolate flavoring), and a dairy-free “yoghurt” drink (plasma extracted from cow blood and treated with bacteria to give a creamy appearance, with sugar, preservatives and flavourings). “The products looked and tasted like chocolate biscuits and vanilla milkshake, it was impossible to tell that either contained blood. They were delicious.”

The news story does not specify whether the tasty treats can be used to create ghouls or enslave mortals to a vampire’s will. This just goes to show how the “mortal” media is a myth: the Fourth Estate is clearly under the control of the undead.

Stranger than Comic Books?

Believe it or not, this was the denoument of a Captain Marvel story when I was a kid. (back when Captain Marvel belonged to Marvel, not DC Superheroes, and he had a family). He brokered a peace with the starving vampires by having blood built into candy bars by a chocolate factory that was doing a poor business. Awww

(I think those were the Fawcett comics, actually; I don’t think Marvel ever owned the character. divertimento will doubtless know the details, but I think it wound up that DC, after acquiring the rights to all the old Fawcett comics, can never use “Captain Marvel” as the title of one of their comics, so he’ll always wind up in comics with names like “Shazam! In The City” and “Sex, Lies, and Shazam!”)

Do you recall if they kept marketing the candy bars to living people after that?

Also, fans of French wine should be aware that cow's blood is a traditional tannin filter. (they're considering putting warning labels for BSE on pre-1998 vintage bottles)

Interesting how it compares to normal dairy-based products - lower in fat, higher in iron. Would make an interesting addition to an existing line of diet foods - like, say, the Happy Cow ones!
