This “dynamic view” thing is a crock. I save a Makefile repeatedly to the “dynamic view” from my workstation and the view on the development machine persistently refuses to update. Changing it on the development machine loses my updates but at least re-syncs the two systems.
The real horror here, of course, is that ClearCase is using NFS (the usual Unix-based network filesystem) to access its virtual filesystem from my PC, and that the Linux machine on which I’m developing has to contact ClearCase via an SMB mount (the usual Windows-based network filesystem) because you can’t just publish a ClearCase view over NFS, but you can point Samba at it.
